βš–οΈ Justice of the Peace β€” CT Appointed
✝️ Ordained Minister

The Person Behind CNT Entertainment’s Ceremony Services

Tony Cordeiro started officiating in 2006 β€” 400+ ceremonies across Connecticut before most local competitors had officiated 40. Couples from Greenwich to Groton, from Yale alumni in New Haven to first-generation families in Bridgeport, have trusted him to honor their relationship in front of the people who matter most. That trust is earned by listening carefully, writing honestly, and showing up calm when everyone else is nervous.

Licensed Justice of the Peace β€” Legally Authorized Under C.G.S. Β§ 46b-22

Tony holds both credentials β€” Justice of the Peace and ordained minister β€” so your ceremony is legally recognized the moment the license is signed and returned to your town clerk.

18 Years, 400+ Ceremonies, One Promise

The couple who met on the Block Island Ferry out of New London. The pair engaged at East Rock Park in New Haven. Every story is different. Every ceremony is written to match.

Ceremonies Written Around Your Love Story

Most ceremony scripts on the internet are recycled. You can tell. The guests can tell. The words sit just a little wrong β€” like a suit that fits everywhere except the shoulders.

At CNT Entertainment, whether you avail DJ service, Sweet 16, or wedding officiant service, every ceremony starts with a real conversation. Not a 40-question intake form. Tony talks with you about how you met, what made you certain, and who’s in the room and why they matter. Then he writes something that could only ever belong to you.

  • One call β€” about an hour β€” becomes the backbone of your entire ceremony
  • Guests consistently ask: “How long has he known you?” That’s the goal.
  • Light-hearted, deeply moving, or both in the right order β€” Tony matches your tone
  • Fully bilingual ceremonies in English and Spanish
  • Seamlessly coordinated with your DJ, photographer, and venue

Connecticut Marriage License Guide

How to Get Your Marriage License β€” What Every Couple Needs to Know

This is where couples run into trouble most often. Here is the short version so you don’t.

Key Rule Get It From the Right Town

Per C.G.S. Β§ 46b-24, your marriage license must come from the Town Clerk’s office in the town where your ceremony will take place β€” not where you live. Getting married at Saltwater Farm near Stonington? You go to Stonington’s Town Clerk, not your home town.

65-Day Rule Valid Window

65 Days

Your license is valid for 65 days from the date of application. Plan to get it no more than two weeks before the ceremony β€” early enough to avoid a rush, late enough to stay comfortably inside the window.

What to Bring to the Town Clerk

  • Valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or passport)
  • Both partners must appear in person
  • License fee β€” typically $50, varies slightly by town
  • Your full legal name exactly as it appears on your birth certificate

Out-of-State Couples

If you live in New York, New Jersey, or Massachusetts and are marrying at a Connecticut venue, you still apply at the Town Clerk in the Connecticut town where the ceremony takes place. Connecticut has no residency requirement. No blood test required. Tony walks every out-of-state couple through this process so nothing gets missed.

Common Questions

Wedding Officiant FAQs

How much does a wedding officiant cost in Connecticut?
Most Connecticut wedding officiants charge between $300 and $650. CNT Entertainment’s packages start at $325 for simple civil ceremonies and $525 for full custom ceremonies. Every package includes script writing, revisions, vendor coordination, and license filing. Always ask what is included before comparing prices.
What are the legal requirements for a wedding officiant in Connecticut?
Per C.G.S. Β§ 46b-22, officiants must be a Justice of the Peace appointed in Connecticut, an ordained or licensed member of the clergy, a judge, or a family support magistrate. Online ordinations through recognized ministries such as American Marriage Ministries are accepted in Connecticut. Tony holds both a state JP appointment and ordained minister credentials.
Can I book an online or virtual wedding officiant for a Connecticut wedding?
No. Connecticut law requires the officiant to be physically present at the ceremony. A virtual officiant cannot legally solemnize a marriage in Connecticut.
Can you legally get married in Connecticut without an officiant?
No. Connecticut General Statutes Β§ 46b-22 requires that all marriages be performed by a legally authorized officiant. There is no self-uniting or Quaker-style marriage exception in Connecticut.
How far in advance should we book our Connecticut wedding officiant?
Most couples book 6 to 12 months out for peak season dates from May through October. For off-season or simpler ceremonies, 4 to 6 weeks is usually enough. Tony accommodates last-minute bookings on short notice when the date is open β€” reach out and ask.
Can Tony officiate our wedding if we are from out of state?
Yes. Connecticut has no residency requirement for couples marrying here. You apply for your license at the Town Clerk in the Connecticut town where your ceremony takes place. That is the only local administrative step required of you. CNT Entertainment handles everything else.
Do you offer bilingual wedding ceremonies in Connecticut?
Yes. Tony officiates bilingual ceremonies in English and Spanish. The full script is written in both languages so every guest follows the ceremony in real time from start to finish.
How does the Connecticut marriage license process work?
Both partners appear in person at the Town Clerk’s office in the town where the ceremony will take place. Bring valid photo ID. The fee is typically $50. The license is valid for 65 days. After the ceremony, Tony signs the license and returns it to the clerk’s office by the first week of the following month per C.G.S. Β§ 46b-34.
Do you write the ceremony or do we?
Tony writes the full ceremony based on your story and your input. You review it, request as many changes as you want, and approve the final version before the day. Your personal vows can be written by you, written by Tony, or a mix of both β€” entirely your call.
What happens if it rains or plans change at the last minute?
Tony has worked through weather changes, delayed starts, nervous couples, and unexpected moments for 18 years. Last-minute changes do not derail a well-prepared officiant. CNT Entertainment adjusts, holds the energy steady, and makes sure the ceremony lands the way it should.
Do you officiate LGBTQ+ weddings in Connecticut?
Absolutely β€” CNT Entertainment has celebrated LGBTQ+ couples since Connecticut legally recognized same-sex marriage in 2008, one of the first states in the country to do so. Inclusive language is the default here, not a special request you have to make.
Can we bundle an officiant with our DJ package?
Yes β€” and we highly recommend it. Booking your officiant and DJ together through CNT means one coordinated team for your entire wedding day β€” shared planning, seamless transitions between ceremony and reception, and zero miscommunication between vendors. Contact us to discuss bundled options.
